Welcome to 5th Grade!

Welcome to another wonderful year at St. John Vianney School. My name is Christine Sitzmann, and I am the homeroom teacher for the Fifth Grade. This is an exciting year for our students, instead of a self-contained classroom, they will be moving from class to class meeting new teachers throughout their day.

Fifth graders are very busy throughout the school year. In Religion, we grow in our faith together. Students will be learning new prayers, use the Bible, lead the school in mass and prayer services. Students will also have the opportunity to become altar servers for mass. They will be putting into action the social teachings of the Church and learn how their actions can make a difference. In Math, our curriculum includes fractions, decimals, geometry, and algebra just to name a few. During Social Studies, they will learn about the history of the United States. The final project for the year includes creating a pop-up book centered around a theme in U.S. history. In computer class, they will be learning the proper way to type on the keyboard. Through many different projects students will learn how to manipulate their way through various programs and create some fun results. They will also be using the Smart Board to create presentations throughout the curriculum.

Fifth graders have a lot of fun throughout the year. They will attend Rendezvous Day in Albert Lea, MN. They will also visit Goldfinch Estates participating in various fun activities with the residents. In the spring students will visit the Pioneer Museum. This is also the year they will begin their fund-raising in anticipation of their trip to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center at the end of their Sixth Grade year.
