Welcome to Fourth Grade!
Fourth grade is a year of academic changes for the students as we continue to transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” This is also the first year that the students receive letter grades on assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects.
In 4th grade we continue to foster and cultivate our faith in Religion class and also through prayer, planning Masses, and prayer services. 4th graders are in charge of planning a prayer service on Veteran’s Day to honor those who have served our country. We focus on grammar and writing skills in Language class, and read a variety of story genres in Reading class. We learn about the different genres and story structures. In Science we touch on different aspects of Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. Our Social Studies focuses on the different regions in our country, and we will do some fun projects to learn about the states in each of the regions. Math touches on numbers and place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and measurement. We also have a weekly art project in order to help us foster and harness our creativity. We use the Smartboard every day during class and work on keyboarding, internet use, and word processing skills in the computer lab. This year we will also be able to incorporate the use of iPads into our classrooms!
4th grade also goes on many fun field trips throughout the year for some hands-on learning. These include Safety Day, History Fest, and visiting the Grotto in West Bend, Iowa.
In our classroom we really focus on respect and teamwork. It is a safe place to grow in our faith and learn together. If you have any questions, you can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
