Welcome to 4th Grade!!

Greetings! My name is Mrs. Striemer. I am very excited to be the 4th grade teacher at St. John Vianney. There are many activities planned for the 4th grade year. It is sure to be centered around God and great learning!

Classroom Expectations

1.) RESPECT, RESPECT, RESPECT!!!

2.) I don't expect more from you than I know you can handle. This is a challenging year, you need to work hard and enjoy it!!!

Subject Highlights

1.) Religion-During the year, we learn about the Beatitudes, the 10 Commandments, review prayers, and learn more and more about being good Catholic children.

2.) Math-We focus on multiplication and division. There are many word problems that are worked on each week.

3.) Reading-We read a new story each week and have many activities to go along with the story. I also like to orally read a book to the class for fun.

4.) Writing-You will be writing in a journal almost every day.

5.) Spelling-There will be a spelling test each week!

6.) Language-We will focus on a different area of grammar each week. This will go along with our Reading story.

7.) Social Studies-We study each region of the United States. You will do 5 state projects and learn all of the states and capitals!!

8.) Science-We will study life cycles of animals and plants, ecosystems, rocks and minerals, and many other interesting topics!

Things to look forward to...

We go on two big field trips during the year, one in the fall and one in the spring. In the fall, we attend History Fest near Mankato. It is a great day spent outside learning about all different eras in our history. There are many hands on activities for you to enjoy. During the spring, we head to West Bend, Iowa to see the Grotto of the Redemption. It is a beautiful grotto that was built to honor Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Throughout the year we do service projects such as Harvest Mass (bring in food for the Hope Shop at Thanksgiving), Gifts from the Heart Mass (bring in toys for the Salvation Army at Christmas time), Kid Kare Kits (make goody bags for kids that are in the hospital), and we visit an area nursing home 2-3 times per year.

The 4th grade class does a prayer service called America Supports You Freedom Walk remembering 9/11. We also plan many school masses throughout the year.

You will learn about many new things this year and also have a great review of things learned in the past. It is sure to be an exciting time!!!
