Mrs. Sarah Streimer

My name is Sarah Striemer.  I attended Minnesota State University-Mankato where I earned by Elementary Education degree.  Recently, I graduated from St. Mary’s University with my master’s degree in Educational Leadership.  St. John Vianney Catholic School has been a part of my life from the beginning of my teaching career.  I began teaching here during the 2002-2003 school year in 1st grade.  I spent two years with the first graders and then moved upstairs to the 4th grade classroom.  I taught 4th grade for 13 years.  Now, I am so blessed to say that this year I have started my dream job of being the principal at SJV.  I am so grateful that I get to come to a place that is as wonderful as SJV every day.  What makes me even more happy is that all four of my children are a part of SJV as well.  My husband, Jay and I, have a son, Isaac, who graduated from SJV a few years ago.  Our next son, Gabriel, is a 6th grader and we have twins, Clare and Jonah, who are in 3rd grade.


Fr. Andrew Beerman

 Fr. Andrew Beerman graduated from St. James High School in St. James and attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona. He studied theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, while attending the North American College Seminary. While in Rome he received a license in the field of moral theology. He was ordained in 1996 and has served as parochial vicar in Rochester, pastor of St. Catherine’s in Luverne and St. Mary’s in Ellsworth, dean of formation/vice rector and then rector at IHM Seminary, pastor of St. Adrian in Adrian, St. Anthony in Lismore, Our Lady of Good Counsel in Wilmont and St. Kilian in St. Kilian. He was appointed to be pastor at St. John Vianney and Holy Family on December 20, 2016. He has two sisters and one brother, but both of his parents are deceased. Other responsibilities in the diocese include: spiritual director of Pathways TEC,and coordinator of Totus Tuus in Winona Diocese.

Mrs. Nicole Maakestad

Hello, my name is Nicole Maakestad.  I was born and raised in Fairmont.  My husband Dominic and I have 2 children, Maddie and Trevor.  In my free time I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, decorating and shopping.  I have worked in the preschool room at SJV since 2012 and  I love it!


Ms. Leah Fortune

My name is Leah Fortune and I am one of the Preschool Aides here at St. John Vianney! I was born and raised in Fairmont. I graduated from Fairmont High School in 2016. I am attending college through Riverland Community College in hopes of becoming an Elementary Education teacher one day.  I love to spend my spare time outside and traveling with my family. I look forward to getting to know everyone here and I am very excited for this school year!


Mrs. Sarah Glidden

Hello! My name is Sarah Glidden. I am the preschool teacher here at St. John Vianney. My husband Jeremy and I currently live in Trimont with our three children; Nic, Kayden, and Carson. I attended school and graduated from Martin County West in 2002. I have an undergraduate degree in Social Work from Minnesota State University in Mankato and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Walden University. My dream has always been to work with young children and their families. I thoroughly love every minute of my job and could not ask for a better group of students, parents, and teachers to work with. I look forward to seeing the growth in the preschool students throughout the year.


Mrs. Erin Olson

Hello. My name is Erin Olson and this is my second year teaching Kindergarten at SJV. I attended high school in Lake Crystal MN, and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a BA in Elementary Education.

I’m so excited to begin my second year; my time at SJV has been amazing. I love working together with the teachers, the parents and the students every day. I feel so blessed to be a part of the staff here and look forward to many more years!

Mrs. Mary Betts

I was born and raised in Fairmont.  I went to the University of Waseca and graduated with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Pre-Kindergarten.  From there, I went to the University of Minnesota at Mankato and received a BS degree in Elementary Education with concentration in Kindergarten.  I received my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Catherine College.  I enjoy Spending my extra time walking, reading a good book and of course, spending time with my family.  My husband, Paul, and I have 3 children;  Andrea, Mackenzie, and Daniel.

Mrs. Karen Sandhurst

My name is Karen Sandhurst and my education includes attending a one-room school for grades 1-6, a Catholic school in New Ulm for grades 7-12, and then Winona State University. There I earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood, graduating in 1980. I completed my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction at St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul, MN in 2003.

I married Ron Sandhurst in 1982 and we have three married children – Adam, Kimberly, and Brent. We also have five grandchildren!

I’ve been teaching at St. John Vianney School since 1982. I really enjoy working in this faith-based community with such great families! I feel called by God to help form children to be disciples of Jesus Christ!

Mrs. Sarah Schiltz

I grew up in Elmore, MN. I attended Mankato State University and earned a BS degree in Elementary Education with a Math concentration. My husband,
David, and I like spending time outdoors, traveling, and being with family and friends. I have been teaching at SJV School since 1997. I truly enjoy working with my students and being a part of Catholic education.

Mrs. Meghan Finkbeiner

 I graduated from St. Mary’s High School in O’Neill, Nebraska. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD. I am married to Jaron and we have two children, Tristan and Harrison. I feel blessed to be able to teach at SJV and share my faith with my students, and I look forward to sending my children here when they are old enough!

Ms. Phyllis Surprenant

My name is Phyllis Surprenant. Since 1980 St. John Vianney School has been my home away from home. I say this because we have a wonderful family atmosphere here at SJV. Being able to teach children and help them to realize the many blessings God has given them has been a joy. I grew up in Luverne, MN with four brothers and one sister. After graduating from Luverne High School, I attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. I was a double major in elementary education and theater. A bit of trivia, my graduation day was May 18, 1980 which was the day Mount St. Helens blew up. I have been blessed to teach at St. John Vianney School.

Mrs. Jen Fogelson

I grew up and graduated from Hinckley-Finlayson High School. I went to Southwest State University in Marshall, and received my BS degree in Elementary Education with a math concentration. My husband, Mike, and I have 3 children; Hayley, Tyler and Shelby. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, and camping. I have been teaching at SJV since 2003 and enjoy working with my students to further their education and to help them grow in their Catholic faith.

Mrs. Joleen Fink

My name is Joleen Fink. I grew up in Rochester Minnesota and graduated from John Marshall High School. I went to college at Concordia in Moorhead Minnesota to get my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. I am licensed to teach music for grades K – 12. I am married to Tony Fink who is the Pastor at Fairmont United Methodist Church. I have been blessed to be able to teach music in all of the communities our Bishop has assigned Tony to. I have enjoyed teaching both in public and private schools. Tony and I have four children, Betsy, David, Ben and Joe. David is married to Marci and they have two children we love to spend time with. We enjoy being part of the many adventures of all our children’s lives. I also enjoy sewing, woodcarving, camping, and many other activites with our church and family.

I have been teaching music at SJV since the fall of 2006. I love being part of a staff that is so dedicated to providing a strong, well rounded education to our students. I greatly appreciate teaching in a Christian school where our faith is such a large part of our sense of calling to teach!

Mrs. Elizabeth Leiding

Hello, my name is Beth Leiding and this is my first year teaching Physical Education here at St. John Vianney! I was born and raised in Fairmont, attending St. John Vianney School from 1st through 4th grades. I graduated from Fairmont High School. I then attended Minnesota State University in Mankato, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education and Middle School Math endorsement. My husband, Josh and I live on the original Leiding family farm and have four daughters: Jaiden, Gabriella, Saige and Amalia. I have taught in various different area schools over the past 15 years, but am thoroughly excited to be returning to my origin! I feel blessed to be teaching in this wonderful school environment, with amazing staff and students, and I look forward to many more years ahead!

Ms. Leigh Schofield

I am Fairmont born and raised and attended SJV School from Kindergarten through 7th grade. When the opportunity to work here at SJV came up, I was delighted at the thought of being able to return “home”! My children, Hayden and Sawyer, have attended SJV since preschool, and it’s a joy to be able to be so involved in their school every day! We live here in Fairmont along with our furry friends, and stay plenty busy with school, sports, scouts, and our volunteer gigs and house projects.


Mr. Ron Sandhurst

I graduated from Fulda High School in 1974. I operated a construction and cabinet shop in Fulda till 1980 with 2 cousins and an uncle. I moved to Fairmont and was employed by Tech Builders as a finishing carpenter, working mainly on cabinets and trim. I received my boiler license from Jackson Tech and began working at St. John Vianney in 1984. Over the past years, I upgraded my boiler license to Chief C. Engineer. I feel blessed for my many years at St. John Vianney.


Mrs. Deb Hartwig

Hi. My name is Deb Hartwig and I am running the Kids Stop Program here at SJV School.  I live here in Fairmont with my husband Brian. Our son Josh attended SJV School.  I enjoy sewing, quilting, baking, camping, and traveling.
