Welcome to Music Class!

Teaching music is one of my favorite things to do!  I firmly believe all people are blessed with musical abilities.  It is my job to help your child develop these God given talents to their best potential.

I see each grade level of classes twice a week at SJV.  During class we work on developing singing skills, rhythmic skills, music literacy and appreciation.  We perform evening concerts at Christmas and spring each year for the community.

Some of our areas of focus for each grade are:

Kindergarten - matching pitch, and steady beat

1st grade - matching pitch, steady beat, and basic rhythm reading

2nd grade - singing skills, rhythm literacy, and staff literacy

3rd grade - singing skills (including rounds), staff and rhythm literacy, and recorders

4th grade - singing skills (including partner songs), staff and rhythm literacy, recorder, and study of band and orchestra instruments

5th grade - singing skills (including part singing), and music literacy with a unit of study on the xylophone

6th grade - singing skills, music literacy, and a greater focus on music appreciation and history

Throughout the year we study significant musical works and composers.  You can ask your child who their favorites are!
