Welcome to Kindergarten!

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Slaughter.  I am very excited to be the Kindergarten teacher at St. John Vianney School.  This year is sure to be one filled with memories that will last a life time!!

Classroom Expectations

***Take initiative to learn***

***Accept "new" challenges***

***Show respect for yourself, others, and the environment***

***Work cooperatively with others***

Subject Highlights

Kindergarten students experience Jesus' presence in our everyday life.  Religion classes allow us to explore Jesus' teachings and apply them to our own lives.  Science and Social Studies classes provide the opportunity to explore God's world around us through field trips and interactive experiences.  We also learn to get along with others and follow rules in a group setting.

We have many opportunities to read, write, listen and speak in our language arts and reading programs.  We take a hands on approach to learning math.  We use manipulative objects on a daily basis.  Music, art, gym, library and computer are also part of our day.

Things to look forward to...

Going on field trips is always a "fun filled" adventure for Kindergarten.  Throughout the year, we go on some small field trips and at the end of the year we take a bigger field trip with the first and second grade classes.

Throughout the year we do service projects such as Harvest Mass (bring in food for the Hope Shop at Thanksgiving), Gifts from the Heart Mass (bring in toys for the Salvation Army at Christmas time) and Kid Kare Kits (make goody bags for kids that are in the hospital).

Kindergartners will have the opportunity to plan and participate in prayer services and school masses throughout the year.  They always do such an AWESOME job!!!

Your child will be educated each and every day with the hope of forming the leaders of the future who will possess the values that will make a difference in our society.

God's Blessings,

Mrs. Slaughter
