Dear SJV School Families,

     Good morning!  We had a great second week.  It is  nice that the first 2 weeks are

both short weeks.  That helps all of us get back into the routine.  Just a reminder to parents, we still need field trip money from many of the students.  Remember it is $21 for K-3rd grade and $30 for 4th, $35 for 5th, and $40 for 6th grade.  Please send it to the office as soon as possible as we are planning field trips by the third week in September.  Let me know if this is a difficulty for your family.

     Grandparent’s Day will be here soon.  We have it scheduled for September 25th.  Pray for a nice day. The forms will be in next week’s Friday Folder. 

     Remember, Thursday at 8:40 AM we will have a prayer service to commemorate the 7th anniversary of 9/11.  Please join us and then we will have a silent walk around the block.

     We are sending the Kidstop form home again.  This really helps us prepare for the students who are attending. 

     DON’T FORGET !!  Wednesday, September 17th  is School Picture Day beginning with the PK students @ 8:30 AM.  There will be NO Wednesday Mass for the students because of Grandparents’ Day Mass on Friday.  “All” students are asked to have their photo taken for the school composite.  However “only” students with orders “in-hand” will be permitted to have school photo packages taken.  Retake Day will be announced at a later date.  The picture form will be in next Friday’s Folder .

     Grandparents’ Day is September 19th beginning at 11:00 AM.  The forms are in today’s Friday Folder.  We are always excited to show what we do at our great school.  We are playing Bingo again.  At 12:00 PM. the students and grandparents can come into the gym and play Bingo if they want.  We will have prizes for the winners. Mass is at 1:30 PM and parents are invited to join us for that.  When Mass is over, the students may leave with their Grandparents.  Karen Sandhurst is planning on a parent/teacher/student choir for Grandparents’ Mass again this year.  If any parent wants to be a part of that, please contact Karen.  They could use voices and instrumentalists such as guitar, violin, or flute.

This year we will not be doing pictures for Grandparents’ Day.  The menu for Grandparents’ Day has been changed.  Please flip flop Tuesday, September 16th on your lunch menu with Friday, September 19th.  We will have the pulled pork sandwiches on Grandparents’ Day.

     The kick-off for the “ Marathon for Non-public Education” is, also, Friday, September 19th at 8:40 AM in the Gym.   Information regarding the school goal, prizes and activities will be included in a future Friday Folder.  The marathon is October 4th at 9:00 A.M.  The rain date is October 11th.  It is always a fun morning.  Please, please, please help!!!  We need both a chair and a co-chair.  If you did this you would have your 100 points completed at the beginning of the school year.  Please consider doing this.  I am begging!!!

     In last week’s Friday folder, the results of the Minnesota Comprehensive Achievement test from last spring were sent home.  These are for last year’s 3rd, 5th, and 6th graders.  All in all the scores were good but a few scores were disappointing.  As you look them over, remember the scores are for one test out of the full year.  We use many many ways at SJV School to assess student’s achievements.

     If your child is ill, homework will be available for pick up in the office until 3:30 PM.  After 3:30 PM, it will be put on the top of the coat rack across the hall from the office.  The building is usually open until 5:30 PM for Kidstop.

     Come to the Fall Festival on Sunday, September 21st.  Serving is 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM.  We have games, bingo, and a jumping castle to enjoy.  All the proceeds go for religious education in the parish, including the school.  Fourth through sixth grade students are asked to help.
