Dear SJV Families,

Can you believe this snow??!!  In my opinion, it is way to early for this.  Be sure your child is dressed appropriately.  This week some students used hats, mittens or gloves and could have used snow boots and pants!!  We go outside unless the temperature is below zero or raining.

As you know, we have had lots of students out this week with influenza-like illnesses. Here are numbers that could help answer any questions you may have.   The Fairmont Medical Center(FMC) has set up a FMC Nurse Triage Line.  If you have influenza like symptoms, call 507-238-8141 to assess if you need to be seen by a health care provider.  The FMC Flu Shot Hotline for information regarding vaccine availability is 507-238-5135.  The FMC Internet Link is www.fairmontmedicalcenter.org    Click on Flu Resources for information from Mayo Clinic, MN Department of Health and Center for Disease Control.

Beginning this week, people with possible flu symptoms can call the Minnesota FluLine at 1-866-259-4655 for information and treatment options.  Professionals are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As you know we made our marathon goal and the total so far is $12,470. Today, we had our award ceremony and honored all the students who worked hard and brought in the most money, had the most donations, sent the most mailers or walked the most laps.  The 6th grade brought in the most money per student so they will be taken out for lunch.  Below are the winners!  We have sent the two-way mailers, that we received, back to each family so that you could write thank you cards for each person’s support.  We have our reward day, planned for Wednesday, November 4th.  The students will love the surprise assembly at 1:00 PM.    Great job SJV students!!!!!!!!

The Knights of Columbus pancake feed will be this Sunday, October 25th.  Proceeds from this breakfast go to pay the school’s yearly Internet fee.  Please come join us.

Can you believe the end of this first quarter is right around the corner?  Every year we ask where the time has gone.  The preschoolers will not have school on Thursday, November 12th because of conferences.  The students in K-6th will have school on Friday, November 6th.  We are doing conferences on two Thursday evenings from 4:30-8:00 PM.  This year we are going to try to schedule the conferences for 5th and 6th graders.  Because of the large class of 6th graders, waiting can be very long.  The teachers of all students will meet with parents in their classrooms.  In your Friday folder you will find the conference sign up sheets.  Please return as soon as possible.

The book fair with be during the first week of November!  A sign up sheet for volunteers is in your Friday folder.  In order to continue this, we need help throughout the week.  Thank you for your assistance.   This is a fun way to get points for parents.

Basketball season is fast approaching.  We have had a sign up sheet in the office for a week and have not had many students sign up.  Please encourage you child to play for their school.  We are still in need of coaches for the boys and for 5th and 6th grade girls. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS!!  We do ask that if your child is playing travel BB and for SJV School that they do play at our Ray Rosol tournament.

Wednesday, October 28th is the deadline for ordering the SJV apparel with the orange jet logo on it.  Please send in your form by then and also let us know if it is for a gift.

Please keep Mrs. Swanson’s dad and Mrs. Slaughter’s mom in your prayers.  They both have had surgery this week for cancer.  It sounds like both are doing well.

Ron Arens is scheduled for open heart surgery on Monday, Oct. 26th. Please keep the family in your prayers.

The school received a check for the computer cartridges we collect this week for $189.00.  Please continue to save those for the school as every little bit helps.

Have a great weekend.  See you Sunday at the pancake breakfast.

God’s Blessings,

Joan Schaffer
