Dear Families,

Good morning!!  The fourth graders are on their way to History Fest.  It should be a fun time and the sun is shining.

It was a tough decision to decide to have the Marathon last Saturday.  Since it wasn’t storming and the rain was sporadic, I made the decision to have it.  St. Paul’s in Truman were not going to be able to join us if we postponed it and the weather forecast for this coming Saturday was cold, high in the upper thirties.  The school board will discuss having a rain site instead of a rain date.  The fourth and sixth grades were the first classes to reach their classroom goals so they received a treat and 15 minutes additional recess!!!  Please remind your child to bring in his/her pledge envelope and any collected money by next Tuesday, October 13th.  We are missing some tally necklaces.  If your child forgot to give it to someone after the marathon on Saturday, please send it to school.  We tally all the laps we do and receive an award if we surpass 1800 laps. We have not counted since the Thursday before the marathon.  Our total now is about $9,385 but we have received some two way mailers that are not counted into this total.  We hope to purchase a least one smart board and a laptop computer.  Bless you all for your support of our school.

The Kindergarten had the highest % of students who brought in popcans last Friday.  Super Job!  They received 15 minutes of extra recess.  Please remember the collection is only for aluminum, not trash, glass, or food cans!  Remember the trailer for the pop cans is always behind the parish garage so you can bring the pop cans anytime it is convenient for you.

If anyone took pictures at the marathon or any school event and would like them posted on the website, please email them to Julie Klages at mjklages @midco.net

If you would like to share them for the yearbook, email them to jfogelson@sjvschool.net  If your computer will not allow you to do that, bring a hard copy to Mrs. Fogelson.  Thank you.

Remember, next week we only have school on Monday, Tuesday and  Wednesday.  On Wednesday, we will have a full day even though the public school is released at noon.  Parents will need to provide transportation after school on Wednesday.  MEA is Thursday and Friday.  Enjoy the fall break and we will be back to school on Monday, October 19th.

We have done well with recycling our caps.  The collected caps should be of the style that have a threaded neck finish.  Caps that are soft plastic, flexible (such as margarine tub lids) or caps that are metal, rubber, brittle plastic or part of a pump mechanism are NOT accepted.   Thanks for adhering to this.

In your Friday folder, you will find two forms for SJV Clothing.  One shows a variety of options including T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies.  The other is for a specific screen printed with our JETS logo.  We must have at least 10 orders for this one as it is costly with the orange lightening bolt.  However, the cost of the screen prints are cheaper than the embroidery options.  This would be a great Christmas gift.  If it will be a gift, please write that on the order form so we do not mistakenly ruin the surprise.  Remember, there is no obligation to buy.

We have had a mix-up this week on coffee and donuts.  The decision has been made for the parish to have coffee and donuts unless there is another fundraiser on our campus.  Sunday the third graders will be hosting and on November 8th, the 2nd graders will be hosting.  I am hoping that the dates that were given last month for the other grades will stay as scheduled.

There has been some confusion concerning scrip.  The scrip requirement is for immediate households only.  Grandparents purchasing scrip is awesome so we can increase this fundraiser, but it will not count toward a family’s scrip unless the student lives with the grandparents.

Just a reminder for all parents that use Kidstop.  Please fill out the form that indicates you do plan to have your child go to Kidstop.  It really helps us plan our snacks.

Next week we will begin sending the weekly newsletter by email.  If you asked for a hard copy, it will be in your Friday folder.

Remember, another planning meeting is Monday, October 12th at 6:30 PM in the hospitality area.  Please come and share your opinions.  It is important that all members of the parish have a say in the strategic planning of our Parish for the next 3-5 years.

 Have a good weekend.

 God’s Blessings,

 Joan Schaffer,

 Principal
