Dear SJV Families,

We made our magazine drive goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Thank you, thank you!!!  I was concerned with the economy that we might not make it but our wonderful families pulled through again and we reached our goal.  Sometimes I feel that a thank you is not enough to express my appreciation to all of you.  We will have the reward and award ceremony on April 16th at 1:00 PM.  The students will have  ice cream sundaes, and play games and then at 2:00 PM we will have the award ceremony with the cash machine, Zarts game, and the pig races.

The magazines you ordered take 6-8 weeks to begin.  If someone ordered magazines and has not received the first one after 3 months, let us know and we will get you the salesman’s number.  Thanks!

The 2010-2011 School Registration has been completed and special thanks to all SJV families for your commitment and continued support of SJV School .  At present, a total of 84 students (K-6) have been registered and 8 families that have not turned in the paperwork for next year.  The school board will be contacting families if we have not received their registration forms.  We are excited to welcome 3 new families so far in Kindergarten.  Presently, we have 36 preschoolers registered.  This is up from this time last year.  We will soon be giving teacher contracts for next year and ordering supplies so we need an accurate count of students.

Just a reminder that our popcan collection is for ALUMINUM cans ONLY.   We have been getting some tin cans in the recycling and we do not take these.  Poor Ron has to dig them out.  Thanks for your cooperation on this issue.

Tuition billing is in your Friday Folder this week.  There are two monthly payments left this year to pay the remaining amount.  Thank you to all who have paid their tuition on time.  We appreciate that as we have to pay our bills also.

Last week in your Friday Folder was a flyer on “Safe Routes to School”(The Walking Buses).  Beginning April 13th, several groups in town are encouraging children to walk to school every Tuesday to get exercise.   There are five routes to choose from and in your Friday folder is the map of the center part of Fairmont so you can see where these routes start.  They go to all four elementary schools but the map in your folder only shows them ending at our school.  Please consider having your child join the fun and walk on a safe route to school.  Participants earn prizes for walking.  If you are able to help chaperone, please let us know.  If you are a bus rider or are from out of town, the gathering spot is at the Aquatic Park ’s parking lot.  As the “bus” moves along, it will pick up students along the way.

When your student has been ill and comes back during the school day, it is required that a parent comes in and signs the student in.  Also if you know your child will be gone for vacation, appointments, etc., please send a note to school prior to the absences so we have documentation.

FYI!!  We have had several cases of Strep throat over the last two weeks.  The illness starts with an upset stomach and then goes to a sore throat.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the Larry and Jamelle Swanson and their family.  Jamelle‘s mom passed away on Sunday.  Please add them to your prayers.

I need your help!!!!  Students are arriving at school WAY TOO EARLY!!!  Some students are here before any of the faculty is here.  Students are to arrive at 7:45 AM or later but some are coming by 7:30 AM.  We have no one to monitor the students at that early hour so please, please do not drop of your child until 7:45 AM.  If you need to drop of your child earlier on one specific day, please make special arrangements with the office.  We will be glad to accommodate you for special reasons.

Pop can day will be Friday, April 16th instead of next Friday as we will not be in school on Good Friday.  Also by April 16th, you will need to send back the forms that are in your Friday folder if your student wants a yearbook.

We are in need of a book fair chair for next year.  Connie Anthony has agreed to do it again this May but it would be great if someone stepped up and could train with her so he/she knows the ropes for next year.

In May, we will elect school board members.  I forgot to put the sign up sheet out during registration.  Please contact me if you would like to run and be part of the school board.  It is an exciting time for our school with our new marketing committee.  If you would also like to be on the Marketing committee, put these next two meetings on your calendar.  The first one is April 6th at 5:30 PM and then there is one on April 19th at 6:30 PM.  We welcome your input.

The sixth graders will be hosting the annual Palm Sunday Breakfast this Sunday from 9AM- 12 PM.  Please come support our students and have a delicious breakfast.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

God’s Blessings,
