Dear SJV Families,

We have been enjoying the warmer weather this week until today.  Eventually even the piles of snow will  disappeared.  Today is the end of the third quarter.  Report cards will come home on Wednesday, March 24th.

Just a reminder that our Lenten Project is raising funds for relief in Haiti .  As Christians it is our responsibility to care for our fellow people.  Please give as generously as you are able in these tough economic times.  Thank you for supporting our Lenten Project.

There are about 9 families that have not turned in the registration materials.  Please do so as soon as possible so we have a count of students.  Our teacher’s contracts depend on the number of students enrolled per grade.  Remember we need 10 for a class to hire a teacher full time.  We are beginning to order supplies for next year.  During these difficult economic times, please come talk to me if you need tuition assistance.  Please do not leave our great school because of financial reasons.  We are willing to work something out with your family.

I would like to thank all of you for your continued support of St. John Vianney School .  Please encourage all your friends and family to consider our great school for educating their children.  We offer small class sizes, individual attention, and our Catholic faith in the Lord.  Our best advertising is by word of mouth.  We currently have 6 students officially registered for Kindergarten but would accept several more.

Please put Palm Sunday Breakfast on your calendar.  It will be March 28th from 9:00-noon in the school cafeteria.  The sixth graders and there parents will be hosting a great breakfast.  They would love your support.

We are looking for ONE volunteer, who is in need of points for parents, to help at our school exhibit at the Family Fun Fair on March  26th at the Five Lakes Elementary School .  Some of our sixth graders have also volunteered to work with the preschoolers that evening.  You will be given a free pass to get in and you will receive 20 points.  The time would be from 4:00-5:00.  Please volunteer if that works for you.  This is a fun way to earn points.

The magazine drive ends on Tuesday, March 23rd.  We are almost half way to our goal.  We have 493 orders toward our goal of 1060.  On the first two turn in days, we took the orders the student handed in plus the internet orders.  On Tuesday, Ken can give us all the postcard orders that have been made and we will add them to the total.  Remember, this year the prizes are accumulative so all three days are added for the final number of orders.  Thank you for your support of this fundraiser.  Thank you also to all of the volunteers for tabulating.  We SO appreciate your help.

The basketball banquet is Tuesday, March 23rd.  It is beginning promptly at 5:30 PM so families can be finished in order to attend the high school band concert.  Please bring what you have been assigned to bring so there is enough food for all.  Thank you.

On April 28th, we will be taking our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to a play at Minnesota State University in Mankato .  The play is about St. John Vianney, the man and begins at 1:00 PM.  It is 90 minutes long so we will not be back for the buses.  It is recommended that students be age 9 to attend this play.  Here is a website for you to look at to see a glimpse of what your student will see.  www.vianneydrama.com    If for some reason, you do not want your student attending, please inform us of this.

There are two Lenten prayer services left.  One is Monday, March 22nd at 8:40 prepared by the fourth grade.  The second graders are doing the “Stations of the Cross” on Monday, March 29th at 12:35.  Please come join us if you can.

We do have Good Friday off but are making up a snow day on Easter Monday.  We will be closed the remainder of the week as the faculty is at the National Catholic Education Association Convention in Minneapolis .

In your Friday folder, there is a permission slip for your child to participate in ‘Safe Walk to School”.  This is a program that several groups are working together to encourage walking to school.  There are 5 different routes that the students can take depending on where they live.  The walk will begin at a specific location at a specific time and the walking bus will pick up students along the way.  It will be occurring every Tuesday morning in April and May beginning April 13th.  If there is rain on a Tuesday, the walk will take place on Wednesday.  If there is rain on Wednesday also, the walk will be deferred to the next Tuesday.  More info will be coming.

Coffee and rolls is hosted by our 5th grade class this Sunday after the 8AM and 10 AM Masses.  Please come and enjoy SJV community time.

The Knights of Columbus are having their Silent / Live Auction this Saturday evening starting at 6 PM in the school gym.  Come support the KCs for all they do for the good of our entire community.

Have a great weekend!!

God’s Blessings,

Joan Schaffer
