Dear SJV Families,

The sixth annual SJV School Dinner / Dance last Saturday night was fabulous.  The students did an awesome job serving.  They made $511 in tips which comes out to about $34.00  for each student for their class trip.  The 8 baskets from the classrooms  and the Mexico vacation auctioned for $6,475, which is so great.  The Preschool “Welcome Meat Basket” was purchased by Lisa and Dean Fick (my daughter and her husband)  for $500.  Ron and Cathie  Arens purchased the Kindergarten’s “Touchdown Vikings” for $300 and re-donated it and it sold to Joe Melsha for $250.  First grade “Get the Job Done” went to Shelley and Jim Busche for $575 and “Spiffy in a Jiffy”, the 2nd grade basket, was purchased by Jamelle and Larry Swanson for $550.  The Braus, Browns, Leichtnams and Shimons bought the third grade “Fun in the Sun Dinner”  for $525 and Dawn and Larry Petrowiak  were the top bidders at $500 on the 4th grade “Tree Planting and Yard Work.”   Julie and Leland Leichtnam  purchased Lisa Izen’s “Lebanese Meal” for $700” and 6th Grade “Dinner Out” sold for $625 to Elizabeth and Dave Shimon.  The week condo in Mexico went for $2000 and the Graif, Hartwigs, Johnsons and Klages went together on that purchase.  WOW!!!!!!!!!!!  Our families are amazing!!!!!!!!!!

The big winner of the KC raffle was Curt and Shannon Jorgenson (Sandy Soelter’s sister)  - $8,000.  The Parish Center staff won the $3000, Louis Bulfer won $2000, Jim Droegemueller and Dan Thiesse and friends won $1,000, Marlys Stegar and  Jill Mathiason both won $500.  Greg Maday, Dave Mosley, Larry Lowe, Scott Donnelly, and Artis Shimon, won $200 while Donna Applen, Diane Runkle, Eddie Murphy, Lois Willard, Bill Kirsch, Mary Garry, Leon Dulas, Jim Schroeder, Louise Ostlie and Betty Wiederhoeft all won $100.  Catholic Schools Week has once again been a tremendous success, thanks to the teachers, students, parents, sponsors and business supporters for the many events.  Everyone was enthralled by the play, ‘Rikki Recycle and the Eko Kidz’.  The students enjoyed wearing their pajamas and having game afternoon.  We are all looking forward to the pizza and Variety Show tonight.  Ron Sandhurst will video tape the complete show and will dub for those who want a copy.  Parents can enjoy the show without video taping.

Congratulations to the 5th and 6th grade boys for taking 1st place in the boys’ Ray Rosol tournament last weekend.  The girls’ Knights of Columbus Ray Rosol tournament is tomorrow from 9:30-4:00.  SJV school plays at 10:30 AM, 12:45 PM, and 3:00 PM.  Please come and cheer for our team.  The Knights of Columbus had their Free Throw Contest last Sunday.  Marisa Nelson won 1st place in the 11 year old girls’division and Mitchell Wittmus received 5th place in the 12 year old boys division.

Opening Ceremonies were on Monday and we welcomed and honored the Parish Center staff. They included Father Kevin, Father Shawn, Deacon Ed, Sister Jane, Joni O’Brien, Kayleen Kleven, Molly Sagerhorn, Mary Zellar, and Barb Goodrich.  Thank you to all of them for their contributions to our parish.

REMINDER:  Don’t forget to record your family’s points in the black book located in the office.  For those families with busy work schedules.... feel free to contact the office with your point information and we’ll record it.  When you enter your points, please be sure to put the hour/hours worked.  Nancy Reischl keeps track of these but does not know how long you worked.  An example is parent work night because we do not know how long you were able to stay that particular evening.  Thanks.

Please check your JMC lunch account online for your balances.  Our goal this year is to have all families check their account so we do not have to send home notices in the Friday folder.

Basketball and cheerleading pictures are on Monday, February 8th after school.  Order forms are in your Friday folder today.

The School Board is looking for SJV school parents who would consider running for the school board for the 2010-2011 school year.  Serving on the school board is a 3-year commitment.  Give it some thought and either contact the school office or any school board member.  The current school board consists of Heather Dulas, Deb Hartwig, Julie Klages, Mike Lockwood, Ryan Nelson, Julie Nordquist, and Bob Petrowiak.  Deb Hartwig and Bob Petrowiak will be leaving this year.  During school registration on March 11th, there will be a sign-up sheet for school board nominees so you have some time to consider running.  Elections take place during a week-end in May.  You need to be a member of St. John Vianney parish or a parent from Holy Family.  So if you know a friend or grandparent who would be good on the board, encourage them to run. Interested individuals do not have to conduct a campaign or make a speech.

The Hope Shop would like to thank the SJV School families for their donation this week so the students could wear pajamas.  Marlys Stegar was very excited about the amount we brought in.

Next week is “Pennies for Patients”.  It is for one week and the money goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Please do what you can to support this worthwhile cause.

The staff and I wish to thank all the families who sent goodies for the teacher’s lounge this week.  We certainly enjoyed every morsel.   We so appreciate your kindness.   Thank you also for your words of appreciation and other gifts you bestowed on the individual teachers.  We are blessed with wonderful families at SJV.

We would like to send our sincere sympathies to John and Ann Gibeau and family.  John’s mom passed away last Friday after a battle with cancer.  She was only 61.  Please pray for their family.

Stay warm.  It is supposed to become warmer this weekend.  Please note information in the Friday folder about the Open House at SJV School on February 16th from 5-7 PM.  Thanks!

God’s Blessings,
