Dear SJV Families,

The students are enjoying the snow now that it has warmed up so we can go outside.  Mr. Sandhurst has sprayed a ring around the snow hill so the students know they are to stay outside the ring.   Please be sure your student has hats, gloves, boots, snowpants.  Thank you.

Check out our website.  The calendar and lunch menu continue to be there.  We are planning to improve our website beginning in February so stay posted.  If you have any  pictures of school events, please email them to us.  Thank you Julie Klages for keeping this updated.  The website is www.sjvschool.net

The Geography Bee is scheduled for Friday, January 8th at 1:30 PM.  This year’s participants include 4th grader Colby Kuhl; 5th  graders: Maddie Hennager, Alex Jette, Tony Joseph, and Mikayla Soelter; 6th  graders: Kaitlyn Cihoski, Hunter Handevidt Anagha Komaragiri, Sydney Leichtnam, and Marisa Nelson.  Good job students and good luck!!

Enclosed in this week’s Friday Folder is information on the talent show planned for this year’s upcoming Catholic Schools Week which will be celebrated January 31th-February 5th.  The Variety Show, always a crowd favorite, is a great opportunity for the children to perform and be recognized in front of the other school children.  With the approaching Christmas vacation, the break would give the kids a great opportunity to prepare an act.  Please encourage your family to participate.  We had some great family acts last year.  Let’s make this year’s Variety Show the “biggest” ever!  It will be February 5th  at 6:30 PM.  We will again have a pizza supper before the show for those who want to come.   We are still in need of a Variety Show Chair person!!!!    Catholic Schools Week activities will be published in a later newsletter.  We are having the play “Rikkie Recycle and the Eko Kidz” by students from Minnesota State University - Mankato , on Tuesday, February 2nd  at 9:00 PM.

All fourth grade girls are invited to join the 5th grade girls basketball team.  The girls can play on both the 3rd and 4th grade team and the 4th and 5th grade team if that would fit into the family schedule.  The fifth grade girls team has only 5 girls so they need some assistance.

Ron has DVDs available of the Christmas program if you are interested.  The cost is $5 and let the office know if you want one.  Thanks Ron for doing this!!!!

We still need a concession chair person!!!!!  January 4th will be here soon.  Do we really want a basketball game without concessions?????

Is there a parent who needs points but because of working is not able to get into the school.  We have the perfect job for you to do at home.  We need someone to do the Boxtops for Education.  The job entails counting the box tops and preparing them for mailing.  Please call the school office if you are interested.

We have several 6th grade students that are not turning in their homework on time.  We began a noon study hall for those students on Monday.  The teachers send the student to the library after they eat lunch to get their assignments done and I supervise.  We have held it every day this week.

May I take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful and a Blessed New Year 2010.  All of the Schaffer children and spouses will be home this year.  In the hustle and bustle, let us remember the true reason for the season.  Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus!!

All of us at St. John Vianney School are so grateful that your family has chosen our school. Thank you for your continued support!  May we continue to provide quality education for years to come!
