Dear SJV Families,

Thank you!!!  Thank you!!!  The “Gifts from the Heart” were wonderful this year.    I know there are many families that will so appreciate your generosity on Christmas morning, especially this year with the economy.  The Lord will continue to bless each of you.  The fourth graders did a great job helping with this.

The Christmas concert is Thursday, December 10th at 6:30 PM.  This is a very important part of the class so all students are expected to attend.  This is a yearly performance and not just a practice.  Please make sure you student is here even if he/she is missing a practice of another activity.  Thank you.

The students have been enjoying roller skating this week.  They will skate one more week.  They really love this activity.  If you can come help with getting students into the skates and gear, please come any morning between 9:45-11:00 AM.  Thank you.

In the parking lot this week, MP3 headphones were found.  If  you are missing a set, stop in the office to claim these.

I think we are into winter now.  Please be sure your student has all the winter gear.  Many students have not had hats and / or gloves to go out on these snowy days.  Please label all the snow things that come to school.  Often, students happen to have the same hat, gloves, snowpants, etc. and they get mixed up.  I was told today that we have four girls with the very same boots.

Basketball is in full swing.  We will try to keep you posted of any changes to the schedule.  The 5th and 6th grade boys and girls will NOT have practice on Thursday, 12/10 because of the Christmas program.

Parents can access their students’ grades by going to our JMC link on our webpage, sjvschool.net  This will help keep you informed so there should not be any surprises when it comes to eligibility to play basketball.  Teachers will check eligibility on Mondays so students will know then if they can play that week.  Parents can also check lunch accounts through JMC.

We have begun to look at Catholic Schools week and all the activities.  The talent show will be on Friday, February 5, 2010.  We would love to have many participants including families that would like to do an act together.   We will send home the talent show sign up soon.  We are planning to have a pizza meal before hand for any families that would like to attend.

The parish has a Reconciliation service on Monday, Dec. 14th at 7:00 PM.  Hope you can find time in your busy schedule to partake in this.

If you are doing your holiday shopping at Target, try to use your Target credit card and have SJV school get the cash back.  We receive a check a couple times a year for about $200.

If  your child is absent and you have requested homework, we will have it in the office at the end of the day unless you have specifically asked for pick up at an earlier time.  Sometimes the office is closed by the time you are able to get here.  We will put the homework on the shelf above the coat rack outside of the office and gym at 3:30 PM.  The school is normally open until 5:30 PM because of Kidstop.

Our second graders are preparing for their first Reconciliation which will be December 12th at 10:00 AM.  Please pray for them as they experience this important sacrament.  Thanks.

There have been more Accelerated Reader quizzes added to our program.  We will be putting the new list on the website so you can check there for titles.

Most of the teachers do not have time to check their email throughout the day so please don’t depend on them getting important information before the end of the day.  You certainly can email Mrs. Petrowiak or myself any pertinent messages and we will respond and get them to your student.  Please plan ahead as much as you can for the day.  Sometimes we have many students who are unsure of after school plans.  We know that plans can change so let the office know as soon as possible.

We are sending home Scrip forms.  As we are in the Christmas Season, this is an awesome way to plan for gift giving.  Thank you for your continued support of the scrip program.

Now that the weather is getting colder, I want parents to know what the policy is for students going to band.  If the temperature or wind chill is below zero, the students will not be able to go to band unless they have a ride.  It is the parents responsibility to get their own student to band.  Some parents are willing to transport other students but some do not want that responsibility.  Parents need to be in contact with other parents about carpooling, etc.  Do not assume that if one student has a pre-arranged ride, that your student can just hop in.  Thanks for your understanding.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Paul and Tanya Hargan and their family.  Paul’s mom passed away this week.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to them.

Also in your Friday folder is an additional flyer.  It is about the 6th grade fundraiser at the Pizza Ranch on Monday, December 7, 2009.  The 6th graders will be bussing tables and helping keep the place looking spiffy.  They will receive part of the profits for the night and all the tips.  Hope to see you there.

Parent work night is re-scheduled for December 15th from 6-8 PM.  The form will be sent home next Friday.

WE HAVE TWO BOOKS IN THE OFFICE THAT WERE SPECIAL ORDERS FROM THE BOOK SALE .  THEY ARE DIARY OF A WIMPY KID.  ONE IS RODRICK RULES AND THE OTHER IS A NOVEL IN CARTOONS.  DID SOMEONE ORDER THEM FOR A CHRISTMAS GIFT?

Have a good weekend.  The first graders will be serving FREE coffee and rolls after both Masses this Sunday in the hospitality space.  Come join them!!

God’s Blessings,

Joan Schaffer
