Dear SJV Families,

Happy May Day!!!  Hope you all get a May basket!!

I was fortunate to go with the sixth graders yesterday on their annual trip to St. Paul .  We visited the Capitol, the James J. Hill House and Fort Snelling .  The students were awesome!!!  They represented SJV School so well by being attentive and respectful.  They were even able to do a mock vote in the House.  It was good for me to see what the day looks like on this educational trip.

The book fair is coming next week, the 3rd-7th.  It will be in the gym.  A special thank you to all who have agreed to work.  We sincerely appreciate your help.  Thank you all for supporting the book fair.  Books are such a wonderful thing to receive with summer coming.

Congratulations to Ron and Karen Sandhurst for the birth of their second granddaughter. Their daughter Kim gave birth to Josephine Rose on Saturday, April 23rd, at 4:09.  She weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces and was 20 ¼ inches long.  How exciting!

The first golf tournament meeting for this summer is May 5th at 6:30 PM at Interlaken Golf Course.  If you would want to be a part of this fun group, just come to the meeting.  We are always looking for new ideas and you can get “Points for Parents” for this.

The library will be closing May 14th, so we can get the inventory of all the books completed.  This year we have added a lot of new books and Accelerated Reader quizzes.  If there is any parent who would like to help with the inventory or needs to finish getting their 100 points, please call the school office.  We would LOVE the help.

Tomorrow is the  Regional Science Fair at Minnesota State University in Mankato .  The following students will be attending as they advanced from our local science fair.  They include Nick Gerhardt, Marissa Krzywicki, Mark Washa, Hunter Handevidt, Morgan Cihoski, Mikayla Soelter, Madison Hennager, Bailey Dulas, Tony Joseph, Madison Reischl, and Shawn Busche.

There will be a short marketing committee meeting this Monday, May 3rd at 6:30 in the school library.  Anyone wanting to join this group is more than welcome.

We do have a few Memory Books left so if you would like one, please let the office know.  The cost is $15 and the check should be made out to SJV School .  Thanks.

On May 13th the fifth grade will take a downtown historical walking tour of Fairmont   on May 14th they will go to the Courthouse and museum.  The 3rd grade will go to Heritage Acres next Friday, May 14th.  Fourth graders take their annual trip to the Grotto on May 20th.  Our annual awards ceremony, picnic, and field day will be on May 21, 2010.  The last day of the 3 yr. old AM  and the PM preschool program is Thursday, May 20th, the last day of preschool for the 4/5 yr. olds is on Friday, May 21st .  Please pray for good weather for all of our year end activities.

Our sympathies go to the Nick and Courtney Cutler family as Courtney’s father, Jack Breen, passed away this week.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families.

Our last pop can collection is May 7th but the trailer will be behind the parish garage all summer so when you need to get rid of your pop cans please know it is still available all the time.  Remember, we can only collect aluminum cans and no tin cans or garbage.

Have a great weekend.

God’s Blessings,

Joan Schaffer
